Magnet Board

Yesterday was one of THOSE days.

You know the ones.  Or at least I hope you know the ones.  Please tell me I am not the only one who has days like these.

The munchkin decided that it would be fun to climb out of her crib at nap time.  3 different times.

My workout consisted of running on an incline of 8 (because it was hill interval day) for 2 minutes and then running upstairs to put the brat munchkin back in her bed.  Awesome awesome workout.

We had ridiculously crazy winds yesterday and I found some shingles that belong on our roof in our backyard.  And it is supposed to rain this week.  And apparently roofing companies do not have any sense of urgency whatsoever.

I volunteered at school for the Basketball shoot out, where 250 kids were coming to shoot baskets and win prizes.  Seemed like a good idea at the time ...

Fun stuff.  Makes me completely unmotivated to do anything today except sit on the couch with a margarita Diet Coke and veg.  Here's hoping the munchkin cooperates.

Anyhoo, I did finish a project yesterday despite all the craziness.  It is this great magnet board I saw on  Pinterest.  I take no credit for the idea whatsoever.  But it is a great one.  Here is what you need:

Large Oil Pan - available at Wal-Mart or any auto parts store.  I got mine at Auto Zone.  The one at my walmart was kind of flimsy.

Cleaner - some sort of cleaner to get the slick surface off the oil pan.  I used Clorox wipes.  About 10 of them.

Assorted magnets depending on what you will use it for.

Here is what you are looking for.  A large oil pan.  Mine had a logo on it.  I looked at 3 different places and all of them had some sort of logo on them.  But the magnets cover it up and the kids don't even seem to notice.

Here is why you want to clean it.  Uh, gross.  Just keep cleaning until the wipes no longer look disgusting.

We are currently using it for teaching letter.  I got a poster at a Teacher Supply store and cut out the letter and then glued magnets on the back.  While Mallory has been using it for letter recognition, Keira came home from school and starting using it to practice spelling!

We are also using it to work on our states.  Another poster from a Teacher Supply Store.  I cut it up into sections and glued the magnets.  Keira love it.

The kids love playing with the magnets, this is definitely a boredom buster.  I can see making magnets for shapes, colors, and more spelling activities for Keira.  They are working on constant blends (CH, BR, etc) and I think I will put a bunch of those together so she can make words.

This was really an inexpensive project that we will get lots of use out of.  The oil pan was $10.99.  I already had the cleaner and the posters.  (The posters are cheap though - Less than $4)  The magnets cost $5.99 for a package of 50, but I used the 40% off coupon at Michael's, so they were even cheaper! A very fun and quick project to put together.
